Shrewsbury - what to do for the not-very-mobile

My mum's coming to stay and I've got a couple of days off and usually go out somewhere where there is indoor stuff to do - my mum loves nice scenery but hates being cold so I always like to have a sheltered fall-back option. This time my own mobility problems mean I can't drive far so looking for places easily accessible by train from Crewe area and Shrewsbury looked promising.
Is the station within close walking distance of the main town centre? (I ruled out Chester as it's a bit of a walk in that respect) My mum isn't great at walking far anyway and right now nor am I! And what is there to do in Shrewsbury that would suit a cold/wet weather day?

Shrewsbury station is not far from town BUT you have to walk up quite a steep hill to get to the shops. As for what to do, really from the station you are only really close to the shops, there is an indoor shopping centre so that could be ok.
All the cinemas, bowling etc are on the outskirts and you would need a car.

Shrewsbury Castle is just before you hit the shops - really nice grounds to just sit for a while on a nice day. Take a picnic!

A boat trip may be nice - if you walk along the side of the river instead of up the hill to the shops you will come to Victorai Quay, just by the Welsh Bridge. From there you can take a trip on Sabrina.
