  • I was 73 last week, finished full time work a year ago at 72 now I am still doing part time so I don't exactly need help to read a form.
Just thought someone might say something like
She will get 50% for Example. As no one knows I will go the route of contacting whoever runs my two pensions that are taxed.
    Cheers

I'm not sure about the Armed forces but I think that in the Civil Service Pension Scheme you had to opt in (and pay extra) for the WCPS - Widows and Children Pension Service.

    Do you remember doing that?

I'm not sure if the rules were changed to include non-contributory widow's pension at a later stage.

With regard to the Civil Service pension, the OP would have paid 1.5% of his salary and his widow would be paid 50% of his pension, since his service began after the time that the 1.5% contribution started (c.1973). Opting in was automatic for me anyway. I can't remember whether opting out was even possible. In any case officers unmarried at scheme retirement age could have their contibutions refunded if they wanted. Before 1973 I believe the widows pension was a third of the officer's pension ( for 0% contibution) and there was some option to uprate to 50% for all prior service, as there was in 1987 for widower's pensions, but that isn't relevant to the OP.
