Help Fitting Door Canopy

Hubbies soon to fit a new door canopy above our front door on a pebble dashed wall.
Its a V shaped canopy,replacing an old flat one.Any advice on the best way to seal it.Would he need a builder in to put flashing on it or can it just be sealed with waterproof mastic.
