Aspect ratio on portable dvd players.

Hi
I bought one of the Maplin 7" portable dvd players but it doesn't seem to handle 4:3 stuff as I would like so I may return it. I don't think it's a fault, it's just not capable of displaying 4:3 correctly.
If I plug in a camcorder or use a 4:3 ratio DVD (home recorded), it seems you get widescreen regardless of any screen display setting you choose in setup.
Does anyone know if this is true of similar type units? What do you need to see in specifications to know that 4:3 stuff will be displayed properly? Is there some particular terminology used like "aspect ratio switching" or something.
Can anyone recommend such a unit which they know changes the screen correctly?
Thanks.

Thanks for reply webhamster.
I wonder if models like these manage 4:3 better. They all say "Supports LCD mode switching for standard 4:3 Full Screen movies"
