Esa and tax credits

Hi am new so forgive me if i get it wrong!
I got my ctc renewal today, ver early its usually june.
Have hubbys details so thats no prob. My question is this
From 10th april 2012 i moved on to esa which counts as income. When i renew they ask for last years details when i earned 0. Do i tell them im on esa now and does it make a difference to my award, its my undetanding that last years income calculates this years. Am i wrong.
It is my last year as my cb runs out for both lads on 3rd september so i know it will stop then. I dont want an overpayment as therell be nowt to pay it back with!!
