Housing benefit

Hi all, not sure if this question has already been asked so appologies if it has.
We are looking at moving house (area too) for numerous reasons but I was wondering about housing benefit.
At the minute we are in a house let by a private landlord and have been here a year now. We recieve housing benefit and top up the difference.
We want to move but are struggling to find another private landlord so we may have to go through an estate agent which isn't a problem apart from the fact they want us to pay the 6 months rent up front plus the deposit.
We have no problems doing this, but every 6 months they want us to pay the contract in full again. The only way we could do this is by claiming housing benefit (until I secure work) and putting it aside to build up so when the 6 months comes round we will have the lump sum ready to pay.
My question is, when we apply for housing benefit the council will want to see our bank statements, when they see we have paid the contract in full, will they turn us down for housing benefit on the grounds the rent has already been paid for that 6 months?
Like I say we are looking into moving but I want cover all angles before we make a decision.
I understand all councils are different but thought someone may know the answer.

You can totally claim if you pay in advance.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
