Jobseekers allowance while working part time?

My hours have just dropped from 16 to 12 and i read that i could claim JSA but they have rung me to say im not entitled to it because i earn over the threshold (they cant tell me what it is though!).
I only earn minimum wage though so im a bit confused tbh. How can you be entitled to claim if you work under 16 hours but earning minimum wage for 12 hrs is still too much?

I am married and my hubby works full time on an average wage, would this have affected it?

I want to start a course in September but cant afford to on my current wages but its free if im claiming jsa so its not so much about how much jsa i can get but more about being a claimant so i can get the course free!

Under 16 hours you can claim JSA, however you do not get the full amount - you keep the first £5 and the rest is deducted £ for £. So £6.08 x 12 = £72.96 so £67.96 deducted from the JSA payment of £71 (if over 25). This assumes though that you have an entitlement to Contribution Based JSA which would be based on your NI contributions between Apr 09-10 and Apr 10-11. (were you working full time during these tax years?)
If you have not made enough contributions then your husbands hours and income would mean you would not qualify for income based

I don't think you can claim JSA if you haven't been made unemployed, all you are doing is dropping your current hours. As your partner works you can't claim for JSA Income based.

Also for training courses only income based JSA is applicable - Contribution based is not an entitlement to fee remission - BUT if you and or our husband get WTC and have a low income (under 15 and bit K) depending on the course you may get it free.
