Windows Live Mail prompting for a Windows Live Id

I've been using WLM since it started and until a few days ago it never asked for an ID.

Now it has and whilst I can find articles on why it's a Wonderful Idea to do so, nowhere does it tell me how to stop the prompt.

The only thought I've had is to set up a dummy Windows Live ID and use that but it's a hassle and I shouldn't need to do it.

Any other ideas?

  • My guess is windows update installed a new version for you (it did for me a few days ago).

I don't know how to stop it asking for a Windows Live ID. I had to create one a while back because I wanted to use the calendar part with Google Calendar and it needed a Windows Live ID to do that.

It seems that all of these systems need you to have one of "their" IDs. I needed a Googlemail to have an Android phone, an iTunes account to have an iPod/iPhone and if I fancy a Windows phone it will need a Windows Live ID.

It seems best to do what it wants rather than fighting it !
