I have something to sell and while looking i noticed another one for sale to see what it goes for . This item has now ended . it had 3 bidders Is it wrong to contact one of the losers and ask if they want to buy mine for their highest bid or is this totally wrong and illegal . My item is not on ebay yet and if this is wrong it will be listed tomorrow . don't want to break any ebay rules.
Thanks
Thanks

It's considered spamming and not allowed. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Yes it is completely wrong and your mail will be considered spam.
List your own item using the same keywords as the one that sold and the underbidders will find you, don't worry.

Apologies for going off topic, but Servalan have you seen the announcement that Jackie Pearce is leaving the UK for good and going to Africa to work with a charity that rescues monkeys?

I have sold a simular item & made sure it is listed around the same Time & Date in that section.

That's no problem at all and makes complete economic sense.
In fact, if you click on a completed listing where it says 'sell same item' (or something) it actually loads you a selling screen that's already in the same category, all you need to do is fill out your own details.
I often adjust my own auctions after seeing that perhaps one of my competitors is suddenly making a lot of sales on a Wednesday, for instance where I usually end on a Thursday.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. i used to use this feature a lot, as i sell mainly vinyl and used to see a lot of my collection fetch good prices.
the problem is, if you list your item you probably wont fetch that same price.
however, it does go against ebays rules, and they are making it increasingly difficult to send unsolicited messages. now im an established seller, i am a bit weary of doing this as it may affect my account (they now also have a lot of FT staff to monitor things like this)
frankly, im surprised how many people took up my offers (if they'd bid £22 for something i'd offer it to them for about £20 including P&P) as they were not protected by ebay.0 -
I have don this in the past though - some Harry Potter stuff I was browsing through and then I mailed the seller and just said 'I saw that you had been outbid but I have one, do you want it for your highest bid price?'. It is very naughty and I would not dream of doing it now I am a business seller but waaaaay back (about 3 years ago) I did and there was no problems. Naughty me though - as I said, no, I would not do it these days!! I'd be too worried about getting chucked off.0
