there is no national training these days , it's all "on the job" and "buddying" training

a lot of the work is wiring on frames (in the exchanges)

you will also fix home/business phone faults, install/fix broadband

work in these things by the side of the roads

in fact anything after the exchange and into the customer.

They are also starting to do the Pc support service that Bt offers

national training centre is near Stone (stafford) now called

BT Training Centre, Yarnfield Park, Yarnfield

they are not allowed to show bias towards BT or any other carrier/broadband isp so assume questions about what reply would be if asked if any one company better than other , how much x supplier are....you would have to give general answers , like "there are comparison sites" or you would need to look on company X website or look in the phonebook", only allowed to initiate sales call from BT at particular request from customer.

Openreach area seperate entity from BT

    they have a web site

    http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/home.do

afraid I don't work for them, but there is no difference in their enviroment and main BT, same pay scales/hours etc, much of the work is the same , just "other side of the fence" in the exchange :)

they have an works control system that allocates work to your laptop, allocates the work to each engineer depending on skills and priority of the job

Great life now, as a retired technical officer with BT, we used to diagnose and repair faulty equipment. Now it's just a case of swopping faulty cards.

yes the tech description of the job says that although its technical the job mainly entails swapping out parts

im happy to answer tech questions based on my knowledge but what makes me nervous is that the agency said they will mainly be health and safety and customer based

they also said 3 weeks training at 6 days a week

main BT get no training, maybe new openreach do these days.

you are expected to make a risk assessment for your job as you arrive, worse case if you are unsure you chuck the job back to your manager for a 2nd opinion, ie...is it safe to work on a bend in a road, climb a pole by the side of a road (maybe a two man job), power cables ??
