Sony laptop

I have a sony Vaio PCG 7Z2M the jack socket went on it which I found to be a common problem, anyway it was swapped with a permanent lead. This lead recently has come away making it look dangerous. So I took the hard drive out and am looking to sell it. How much would you say this is worth like this. I was hoping around £80-£100 being a sony viao but thought I would ask you experts. thanks

Three recent examples on ebay sold for £88, £36 and 1 not sold (start price £49) - all had faults...

    Have a look http://www.ebay.co.uk/csc/i.html?rt=nc&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=Vaio%20PCG%207Z2M&_fln=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283
  • Thank you :) I did look on ebay and was hoping for £80-£100 like I said.. I have put on a local selling page and was offered £30, I thought that was way too low but then thought I really don't know what its worth lol

If I was you I would take it apart and sell each part separate i.e screen, power supply, DVD drive this way you will get alot more in the end.:D

You might want £80-100 but the market dictates otherwise....

I know hence me asking what its worth! Its a difficult thing to price esp as it has a permanent lead.. I have no idea what its worth but would have thought its worth more then £30, or hoping it was.

To be candid, you'll be very lucky to get anywhere near what you'd like. These laptops are between 5-6 years old. There are 5 faulty Vaio PCG 7Z2M for sale on ebay today with only one having a bid at £9.99.

The way these laptops were constructed, obviously when you first broke it, the plastics within the base broke, as the jack socket is connected to the mainboard via a cable. The base plastic is for sale on ebay for £20, and would cost around £40 to repair (depending on how the hardwire repair was made.).

If you sell as components, you would get more, but you'd need several buyers to be searching for parts; the most common fault on these is the screen, so if yrs was fine, this might sell quite quickly, the rest you may need to list several times to get what you want.

If you list as a complete unit, be confident about it - ie fully working apart from jack problem (as you say common), spell out the cosmetic condition, explicit about the screen etc. In the end if your listing is better presented than the others that's a positive; if you on the other hand you don't have a strong track record, then ebay won't be for you. Try gumtree?

But I do believe the chance of getting anywhere near £80 as faulty is improbable. The price you want, is more likley the price you'd get for a working 5-6 year old laptop with no hdd, no system etc.
  • Thank you for your help Robmar0se, I have haggled him up to £45.. I paid £500 for this years ago so it hurts that its worth just that lol! But might as well! Thank you again :)
