What happens after 26 wks of SSP?

Does anyone know what happens when someone has been getting SSP for 26 weeks please? I understand that it is only paid for 26 weeks, but what benefit should be applied for after that?
Tax credits will also stop at that point, so there will be a dramatic reduction in income anyway for the person I am asking for.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

It used to be that you had to apply for incapacity benefit, presumably it is now ESA. I would have expected a letter from either the company HR dept or the DWP to explain.0

I thought it was 28 weeks?
If you're still not fit for work then you make a claim for ESA.0
