Stop paying everything by direct debit - take control and use standing order / bill payment methods.
Cannot agree more with non-DD payments. Ditch the Direct Debits if you can people !
My consumer debt, modest and neccessary to manage my family needs on a low wage back then, has been magnified tenfold by bank charges simply for theirs and the companies complete and utter inability to know what day it is. I had a stroke three years ago so things get paid regularly when the letters arrive with the payment slips in, rather than me having to remember. So thats ever so handy and I havent had bank charges in a few years now.
All of which has helped me amble through paying debt off steadily and the reclaim of bank charges (estimated at thousands) will leave me in the position I should have been in with enough money to clear the rest of my Barclaycard (current actual debt a few hundred pounds) and spend it on my children. Maybe some fabulous shoes just for me too
It irritates me that companies will charge a fee for non-DD payments but the upside is the regular reminder of a bill due and more importantly no colossal mistakes at the bank for which I pay an outrageous and crippling charge for.
You just cannot put a price on peace of mind and such great reduction of stress in life0 -

If you stick to your guns, you'll get 100% of your money back. If you let them dictate terms, you'll get less. Up to you, really. I know what I've done so far, 6 times, and I got all of my money back.0 -
hi all, just a quick query. if the oft's decision has an impact on the amount that people can claim back, as i am only half way through the process (about to send off 'second 14 day to reply letter') can i claim all the money back on the basis that they were taken from income support (my only other income is disability benefits and child benefit)? hope that makes sense!0

Hi there,
i have three Moneyclaim online claims i am submitting this weekend, what effect could this investigation have on my claims?
I have had no response from the bank for 2 months on my claim request, im guessing they are stalling.0 -
Sorry, have I missed something, what's the significance of the above date, apart from April Fools day!;-) Is that the date the OFT are due to report back?0

I would like to know that too, does it mean we cant start any claims against the banks, my daughters been on at me for ages to claim my charges back as they are whats making my account OD each month, its hard to manage my disability money when bank is taking £90 a month.Murphys no more pies member 48:beer:
