New Boiler Needed: Combi or Standard - which is most efficient?

I have an old boiler to heat just the house, not the hot water for taps.

The boiler is over 10 years old, and nearly the end of it's lifetime.

There is just one person living in the house, who 99% of time has showers, and washing machine once a week.

Should I get a like-for-like boiler, and leave the hot water heated by the Economy 7 electricity (big hot water tank), or a Combi boiler that heats everything in the house?

Which is more economical? More efficient.

  • A combi boiler would be a lot more effecient for you hands down.
The only thing you have to ensure is that you can have a combi, correct incoming water pressure and flow rate, not everyone can have one but will be told they can by any heating engineer who is desparate for the work and may be a little dishonest.
Combi boilers heat the water you require instantly so you wont have a large volume of water to heat that is probably not used completely.
Get at least 3 quotes/estimates and try and get guys used by friends or relatives so someone can vouch for their work.
