Which company to switch to, they all sound awful!!

Is it really okay to keep switching to a different supplier when they offer a cheaper rate. I'm a pensioner living on my own, I pay by monthly direct debit and eon take roughly £120 pm for electric and gas. I'm on their Age UK plan but it doesn't seem to do me any favours. First Utility offer quite a saving but having never switched before, I'm worried about doing it without contacting eon first. Is it safe to just 'switch'?
And on top of what Macman has advised, ensure you give your new supplier the reading to switch. Ask them how to do this but you only have a short time to get it to them. If you miss this period, a Deemed estimate is created based on your last 12 months consumption. I suggest avoiding estimation so you retain control. Ensure your current suppliers final bill then matches your new suppliers opening reading. Providing it does and you have a final bill with all payments already made on it and your prices on the new bills are hat you were told, you're OK.
If you have issues, post on here and posters will office advice about anything you experience in the switching process.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
