PPI claim refund

Hi people, I took out a loan for around £5500 back in 2005 and was told to take out ppi, I took it out as mum and dad also said to take it out. The loan was paid off a year early. It was with hsbc, but I now deal with natwest as my partner is with them and i found hsbc very awkward to deal with. I still have a account but it is empty and doesnt get bothered with at all. I recently got told by a neighbour to make a ppi claim but my problem is I no longer have the loan paperwork, Do I have a genuine claim. I emailed hsbc to explain my situation but they seem to be throwing me from one end to the other. I was in full time work at the time and could be off for a month and have full pay and was living with my parents with no commitments. Many thanks
