My savings are stopping me affording a home

I don't read ManicMum's post as her "wanting more more more" or "ramming her snout in the trough" or that she is a "money-grabbing greedy git".
I think she makes a reasonable point that some (obviously not all) people on benefits have a better standard of living than some families who work.
All ManicMum has asked is "is that fair?"
And, no, of course it's not fair.
You acknowedge that yourself:
I'm lucky enough that I've never had to rely on benefits and I certainly don't begrudge those people who really need benefits, but I do those who are fit to work but have never worked and have no intenetion of ever working as long as they can get money for doing nothing.
Years ago, a guy with no qualifications and no skills and a number of kids told me he wanted £x,000 a year to get out of bed.
That was considerably more than I (as an IT specialist) was earning.
And that is what's wrong with society today.
Please have a quick read of manicmums other thread and you may see where I'm coming from.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
My savings are stopping me affording a home
No they are not - you can afford a rented home! They are just stopping you from getting UK taxpayers to provide one for you FOCYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

This whole thread is obviously a wind up but this comment really is hilarious. Maybe we should just put our babies in the cupboard until later as they won't remember it anyway! You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

I also think this is a troll. Even with the savings the OP would be getting CB and child tax credits which would total over £70 per week

If I had no savings the government would pay my rent & probably give me more than the £20 a week I get. [/QUOTE]0 -
and you have obviously not read about my reasons for that. DO I have to say again that 2 of my children have additional needs. It can be tough. I am not looking to move somewhere else, such as Chelsea or Notting Hill, or Sandbanks as someone else suggested, because I think it would be lovely. God, you people are so revolting in your vitriol.0

Where is this post you have written? Because I'm not seeing it. Why do you think it is ok to slate me on here yet probably wouldn't to my face? Perhaps you would have liked to see us today at a friends with her having a total meltdown over her trying to play a game of skittles. Other people looking at me like I'm a bad parent because they don't know or understand what is going on. Or putting herself in danger, not listening to instructions, not having friends, not being invited to other people's houses. Worrying yourself to death over them, living 500 miles from nearest family member. You are disgusting trying to turn people against me over a legitimate reason for asking the question in the first place. No, my husband has not been offered a good job. It's worse. We will struggle. But better than working for a morally bankrupt employer who flouts the law. Now shove off and don't bother me again.0 -
Because I have savings I do not know which way to turn!! regarding housing, work, future.
At the age of 42 years of age I am living out of a suitcase back in England with my 2 year old son - who's father is Turkish, living in Turkey so I can get no financial help from him.
I live between family members & have good savings (over £16,000) from a property I owned prior to selling up & giving up my job 4 years ago.
If I had no savings the government would pay my rent & probably give me more than the £20 a week I get. Because I have savings I am eating into my saving which I cannot afford a house with anyway, as I need this money to live on, I do not wish to work until my son goes to school (he has been through alot for a little man).
Can someone advise me whether I have the right to give my money away to a relative I trust, as this would seem my only way forward.
I don't understand, you are happy to "give" the money away, yet you seem to have a problem in spending the money on you and your son.Surely as others have said, get yourself somehwere more permanent to live which will have a much better effect on your son (who you are quite rightly concerned about),until such time as you either get a job or are able to claim benefits. You can have up to £6000 in savings and your benefit would be adjusted accordingly.
I understand wanting to stay at home with your son and one can imagine you may both have been through a lot, but approaching this situation in a clear headed and responsible way will do him far more good, than a very unsettled home life.
Saying "if you had no savings, the government would pay", for this and that, is neither here nor there, you do have savings and this is what we save for isn't it, to bail us out when times get rough.0 -
Manicmum, if you don't want us to bother you again may I suggest you stop posting here?0

No, I will not stop posting here because you are writing things that I have not said and misinterpreting what has been said. This is nothing less than bullying for which some of you have been reported.
I do not have more than 16k savings. I do not own a Buy to Let.
I used to own a property which was sold 2 years ago and the funds were paid off my residential property. I have explained why I need to do this. Obviously you all lead such perfect lives and have not had anything more taxing than harassing innocent members of the public on MSE. Well that's great for you.0
