no. it isn't recognised as a bank holiday by the company i work for.
can't name any names 'cos of the size, mentioned quite a bit on here though.

If they don't recognise it as a BH then why are they closed?

Shops over a certain size are not allowed to open on Easter Sunday - maybe it's a large store? Thats presuming it is a retail store :D
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

Or roast it with the bone in, serve with roast potatoes etc. Then strip the cooked meat off and do other stuff with it afterwards.

    Hi apple_mint

I was intrigued by your washing powder mix how do you make it and also with the garlic clove do you just sit it in a saucer of water, might do one myself

since the rise of 24 hour supermarkets i'm finding less of these mega reductions as shops especially in scotland don't often close for long .

    Hi oueyouey

I got both the recipes from money-savers here. A big thanks to those who posted! I'm new to this so I can't find the original posters to link to :o

    WASHING POWDER

1 cup of grated soap (I use Tesco's value soap - 3 bars for 21p)
    1/2 cup of washing soda crystals (Tesco's again - 51p for 1kg)
1/2 cup of Borax (Barnitts (hardware store) in York - 99p for 300g. I also asked in Boots and they dug me up 3 x 750g boxes (£2.19 each) from their cellar because they hadn't sold it in the shop for three years.)

I use a coffee mug for the measurements and keep the mix in a plastic box with a tablespoon (so easy to use even my teenage daughters can manage the process :D). This mix makes seven - nine wash loads depending on how much I put in the detergent tray. I get four mixes from the 3 bars of soap. I haven't finished the first bag of soda crystals yet (I've made 3 lots) and I get 2 mixes from the small box of borax (the Boots supply should work out cheaper).

Use one tablespoon for a light load and 2 tablespoons for heavily soiled.

So far I haven't been disappointed. I did my nets this weekend - added some oxyclean to the mix - and I have beautiful white nets back up at the window. My eldest daughter has sensitive skin and it hasn't bothered her at all. It takes 5 minutes to make and I keep the ingredients in ready to make the next mix.

    GARLIC CLOVE

This is my first attempt as I got this off here a couple of weeks ago.

I simply pulled a clove off a bulb of garlic I had bought for cooking. Pushed into a little pot of compost and am keeping it well watered. It took a week to push through and now it is growing at a rate of 1/2 inch per day. At first I put it into one of the empty herb pots you get with the plants in the veg section of the supermarket, but it's roots were pushing through the bottom of the pot so I've moved it to a much bigger one.

Apparently they flower and then die back, then they are ready to take out of the soil (pulling off one clove from the new bulb and planting to start the cycle again). I read on another site to keep it well watered so that you have a nice juicy garlic bulb. This one is living on the kitchen window sill but I am also going to grow some outside.

I bought a herb growing book from a charity shop and I'm planning to grow herbs rather than ordinary flowers in my flower beds this year :D
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

    Thanks apple_mint

I will give them a try. I've also bought some herbs seeds this year to grow, haven't got much of a garden so it'll just be a window box

Herbs are also nice in a hanging basket type arrangement outside the back door - easy for you to reach, and well away from the local mog's latrine...
