in Credit cards
This has probably been posted before but I am an ex-debtor (over £27K paid back yipee:j) and my partner is a failed business man with CCJ's. We are off to the States next year (paid for by a super generous relative:beer:) for a special occasion and want to be able to take money with us safetly. We are unable to get a Credit Card (or are we?) can anyone advise us on the best alternative to this please.
One more payment to go and £27,000 paid off to all creditors - yipee:T

You could look into getting a pre-paid card.
Or travellers cheques are another option.0 -
Would the super generous relativeᵀᴹ be willing add you to one of their cards as a supplementary cardholder? Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

How can I ask him to do this as well. Unfortunately for me they are not going straight to the states but on a weeks holiday before, so we will be there three days in advance, hence my need for a credit card!:)One more payment to go and £27,000 paid off to all creditors - yipee:T0 -

I think this is the only way. I do seem to remember that you could buy a preloaded card but was unsure if you had to be credit worthy first to get the preloaded card! One more payment to go and £27,000 paid off to all creditors - yipee:T0 -
One other thought. Are you thinking of hiring a car whilst you are there? I think all car hire companies need to reserve a fixed amount on your card before they let you drive away.
That's quite easy on a credit card but not sure how it would pan out on a pre-loaded card.0
