in Credit cards
Hi everyone
I recently took advantage of Barclaycards 0% balance transfer for existing customers.
When the transfer was completed, I set up a direct debit for more than the minimum payment.
I received a letter from Barclaycard thanking me for setting up a direct debit.
Today (around a month later) I received a letter stating that I hadn't made my first payment, my account was suspended and I incurred a £12 fee.
I contacted Barclaycard to find out what had happened, and apparently I should have been aware that I needed to make the first payment manually. This is obviously a common occurrence because before I could ask him how the situation could be rectified he went straight into the solution: he would take the payment there and then, the fee would be refunded, my account unfrozen, a note made on the account of what had happened, and I need to call back in 2 days to reinstate the promotion.
I asked if this will affect my credit rating and he confirmed that the record of this missed payment has already been sent to the credit rating agent(s?)
My question is, how badly is going to affect my ability to get credit in the future?
Thanks
Tom

i reckon as long as the rest of your credit history is good and circumstances dont change , you should be fine , i have made a similar mistake in the past and have not been refused any credit

Not exactly the same situation, but i have on a couple of occasions missed a payment date (i was making payments manually at the time due to bank previously taking wrong amount from my current account).
I was told its not a big issue as i rectified and made the payments within a day or so.
Touch wood i have not been refused credit to date.Date of Update – 08/04/19
Goal 1 – Reduce Mortgage - £120k/£120k = 100%:j
Goal 2 – Stupid Fun Car Fund - £11000/£30,000
Goal 3 – Savings – Rainy Day - £10000/£10,000

Same for me I missed a payment due to a misunderstanding with a cc direct debit, as long as it is a one off then it should not cause you any problems....0 -
Okay. Thank you very much for your replies. Guess I don't have to worry too much about it.0

Add a notice of correction with all 3 CRA's for the late payment the entry. That will give you an opportunity to explain the oversight and any future lenders have to read it and take it into account.
Provided the rest of the history is good then I can't see why it would affect you too much.0 -

That sounds like absolute BS to me, although it doesn't surprise me as I have never, not once read or heard anything good about Barclays.
Is that actually in the small print somewhere or are they pulling a fast one? I suspect not if the agent you spoke to reversed the c*ckup as quickly as you say.Oh, you wee bazza!0
