Bought 2nd hand car - Faulty
Not sure if I am posting on the correct forum but I am after some help.
I purchased a 2005 BMW 1 series fom a dealership called quicks.
It came with a 30 day warranty (which was lucky)
Basically the car broke down within a week of having it and it went back to be repaired. They had it for a couple of weeks and when it came back it broke down again within the day, Again it went back and they had it for a couple of weeks. And then the same thing happened again.
I am meeting with the manager tomorrow to discuss a replacement or a refund. I would like to know what my rights are i.e claiming back the cost of insurance and road tax as I have been unable to drive it. Also this has caused a massive inconvenience in getting to work and additional cost in using public transport etc.
Any help would be greatly received.

It's had varying issues, from stretched timing chain, faulty lambda sensors and now there not 100% sure what is causing the fault. I have told them I do not want the car back but It has cost me a few hundred pounds in the short time I have had it.0 -
tax can be cashed in, insurance transferred to another vehicle, thats those points,
the rest depends on what you do,if you take a full refund then thats that,
if you take another vehicle try for either 6 months free tax as a gesture of goodwill or a tank of petrol etc
unless you have specific receipts for the days you used public transport I doubt you will get anything for thatIMOJACAR

Unlikely you will get any consequential damages without a specific court order. (and not sure of your chances of getting a court to award such damages)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

they have to give 3 months warranty by law !0 -
SOGA 1979 States that faults occurring within 6 months of ownership are for the trader to prove didn't exist at the point of purchase. A warranty covering part or all of that period does not replace your statutory rights, it is an addition to them. There is no 'law' saying a trader must provide a warranty. That's what the SOGA is for.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

You would not believe the amount of people I've heard who claim that the three months warranty is law. I can only assume its because many places offer a 3 month mechanical warranty.
I remember when I got my car from Quicks (big mistake BTW) that when they mentioned a 30 day warranty I had a little chuckle to myself. It developed a couple of faults but still having a years manufacturers warranty on it I claimed on that and got the local main dealer to fix it rather than trust that bunch of clowns.
Not sure what they employ as mechanics but I think it must be the Kwik-Fit rejects.0
