Hi Mark - slight delay over scaffolding (needed special fittings to bridge a fragile garage roof) and high winds but they should be up on Monday.

We're also going to get 16 panels not 15 plus a Sunnyboy inverter instead of the Aurora. There was an error in the drawing which came with the quote - that showed 15 against 16 in the quote, and when I queried it they reduced the price (and swapped the inverter because of the lower power). On the final check through to sort the contract paperwork they realised the quote was right rather than the drawing so offered us the original deal back which we're going with. It will now be 9 SE and 7 SW.

I'll let you know how it goes after Monday.

    Thanks Martyn

I'm also leaning towards the Sharp/SMA option. Feel the more recognised panel manufacturer will give me more peace of mind.

In terms of payback - the compare my solar calculator gives me some promising figures:

Year 1 payback of £1191 (including FiT of £714). Payback period is estimated at 6 years. Total benefit would be just over £37k

I'm sceduled to have loft and wall insulation put in a couple of weeks time as my current EPC rating is E.

I'm hoping i should be up and runinig and fully registered before the July deadline :(

How confident are you that you will move to a D?

Sharp panels are rubbish they perform ok but there build quality is very poor , POLY & only 5 year warranty . we hate installing sharp as they feel like they gonna fall to bits.

best panels pound for pound on the market if you want to spend under 8k for 4kwp are yingli panda 265w 16.2% efficient MONO (9th most efficient panel in the world)

    with solar edge inverter !

See this video why solar edge is much much better than a standard dual MPPT tracker inverter.

If the supplier can't explain what is a good system for you, don't go with them. They should take in account where in the country you are, what the aspect is - for instance if you are not due south facing, panels which are more efficient at lower light levels may be better. Also they should take into consideration any shading from chimneys etc. As the panels are usually connected in series, if one is shaded, the output of all the panels is reduced. Also where the inverter is sited is important - they do not work so well in the roof where it is hotter, a garage or utility is better.
I have had panels since dec 2011 and am delighted with mine. Even at the rate they produced last year they will pay for themselves well within 10 years and last year was VERY dull!
