The leccy savings are from the calculator on comparemysolar so im not sure how accurate it is. Either way the savings will be a bonus and im more interested in the FiT.

That's really the only way to view things !

Chances are the website you've looked are using the infamous 14p/kwh figure on the (silly) assumption that you'd really save that much. Of course, that figure includes 'standing charges (whether they'e levied separately or by charging a premium rate for first group of units) and you'll probably never save them. Unlikely you're actually paying much more than 10p a unit for any units bought after the charges are paid (or if you are, it's time to shop around for a new supply contract)

Just checked that site, used my house and system as a reference point. Estimated generation was spot on with what I've worked out, and seem to be getting (I'm maybe a little over).

The total however, seems to be FIT + Export + generation*10p, so for me it was about £300 for leccy, rather than a more reasonable £100, or the £120 I'm aiming for.

Nice site though, and easy to use.

Watch the compare my solar figures - they assume you use all your generated electricity rather than exporting any. The normal estimate is 50:50 - with export at 3p and saved at 14p. If you play with the settings you can set your annual consumption to be 50% of the estimated generated electricity which then forces it to use a better balance!

Looks like we've finally made our minds up and will be going with 15 x 250W Siliken panels (perform well on the photon lab tests in terms of actual generating experience) coupled to a Aurora inverter, split 8 panels facing SE and 7 facing SW. Cost just over £7k for 3.75kw.

We had 2 * 3.92kw systems installed at the start of Feb for £7k each.

Each system had 16 * 245w suntech panels and an SMA 4000TL inverter. Really happy with the system so I'd definitely recommend this set-up if you can get it at decent cost.

I think FIT rates are due to go down again soon so worth getting it done before that happens. We were lucky that we got on at the original 43.3p rate....wasn't certain we'd get that but even at the 21p it would have been a decent investment.

    Thanks for the info Ferdy.

Wow a 4kw system for 7k on the 43p rate - great deal.
  • We had our system fitted by Renewable Solutions Team and are delighted with it. The service was excellent and the fitters were very curteous and I would highly recommend them. We paid £7k for 16 panels and chose the Power One inverter and it is performing much higher than the numbers that they had quoted. We searched more than 20 companies before we took the plunge....but I just wished we had of done so sooner. I have just got my invoice out and the number to call is 0845 1163091 - tell them that Ms Fletcher recommended you. :)

Apologies if I've misjudged you, but where then did you find the phone number which you posted 30 mins earlier on the 'Solar - which panel' thread, when you put the first of your 2 adverts on this forum?
