Parking eye - hospital

Hi just looking for some help please.

Have received a letter from parking eye today for parking charge for failure to pay when parked in hospital car park.

I did NOT pay but only because the 2 ticket machines in the car park I was in were out of order (I suppose there were prob other machines at other car parks on the site).

Anyway I have emailed them to inform of the reason for non payment and offered to pay the parking tarrif (£2-£3 I think). Informed them that I have parked there numerous times due to recent birth of my son and his subsequent illness and ALWAYS paid.

I sent the email coming on the MSE site so just looking for some suggestions as to what I should do now please.

Thanks

Firstly, wait for their letter, rejecting your appeal. They always reject them. What's in it for them, letting people off?

Then, ignore the threatening letters they will send you. I warn you now that they will contain threats of all sorts of financial and legal unpleasantness.

All they can legally ask for is what the car park owner has lost. By asking for more, it becomes a legally unenforceable speculative invoice. Only councils, police and Transport for London can impose fines. Private companies and individuals can't.

Eventually, they will realise that they are throwing good money after bad.

We wish your son a speedy and full recovery.

Yes, the last thing you need at this difficult time is a bunch of scamming leeches trying to get money out of you which they are not entitled to.

You have done the lawful thing and offered what you didn't pay at the time (though the "out of order" ticket machine is a common ploy by these tricksters) so you cannot be criticised. If they don't accept that then they have NO CLAIM WHATEVER against you and anything they say they want is nothing but hot air which you can safely ignore.

We know these crooks very well, accepting just what they are entitled to is not in their greedy nature. But don't give them anything as they know full well that at the bottom line they cannot do a thing against you and won't try.

Echo Stephen, good wishes to you and your boy.

    Trini,

Just to echo the others. Pay nothing as you have already been more than decent. No reasonable person would expect you to run around looking for machines with a sick child to care for.

Best wishes to you and your son.

    Result!

Part of me hopes that someone at the PPC does have some honour. Part of me suspects that they simply realised that they were in a "no win" situation. Part of me suspects that they were told to do this by the hospital.
