Thanks for the many suggestions ,I want for cooking ,I have seen on a few programmmes that its good as a moisturizer aswell, surprized it dosnt go rancid quickly though :)

It doesn't go rancid and is kept at room temperature. Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil is the best oil/moisturiser you can put on your face to reduce the effects of environmental damage and ageing. It will also balance out an oily skin and improve texture. I can't rate it highly enough! It will keep you young and healthy.

  • iHerb.com has a good deal on extra virgin, organic coconut oil. The Jarrow Formulas 2lb container is cheaper than Coconoil, including the shipping. The 2lb container (at US$19.95) is under the £15 limit for duty/tax free import).

If you've not ordered from them before please use my coupon code: TUV477. You will receive $5 off of your first order.

If you've not tried extra virgin coconut oil, it is a fairly cheap way to compare with the more refined, cheaper option. Then you can decide whether the extra expense is worth it to you. The Jarrow definitely smells of coconut. Other stuff I bought quite a while ago from enaissance.co.uk has no odour, even though it says it is "virgin".

I bought the Parachute microfiltered stuff from Spices of India as part of a larger order as over £30 is P&P free. The Asian Cookshop does P&P free on orders over 24.99. I don't like it much for cooking, too coconutty but wow great moisturiser !!

I have bought a small tub of "Parachute" Coconut Oil today - the choice in the Asian Food Store was quite big but I didn't have my glasses with me to check the labels closely so for convenience I bought what was in a tub rather than a glass bottle!

After the comments above - is this brand safe/ok for external use or is it rubbish??

It is very coconut-ty so I guess it would be overpowering for using in drinks and cooking but my first impression is that is very effective for areas of dry skin :)

If its for health benefits, it must be cold pressed - as any heat used in the extraction process kills the medicinal benefits.

Coconut oil has been used for centuries as a health aid and is a wonderful wound healer as is active Manuka Honey. CO is also a natural aid for body cleasning (ie parasites), and can also be used on your animals (my doggy for example) for the same benefits without injesting chemicals.

Also a fab aid to dieting and although thought for yrs to be high cholest. so bad - the chain of fats is actually easily broken down and utilised by the body and not stored as fat (if that makes sense !).

I am by no means an expert just an enthusastic user, and would suggest a google and you will be amazed on just how useful this oil is, Bruce Fifes books are also fabulous - but rememvber the quality of the product is all in the extraction process so do your research before buying.

I buy the Tiana range as its both ethically sourced, stored in non porous glass (and not plastic which can leach into the oil I'm led to believe) and of premium value and quality.

    Hope to help

    Whats the question ?

If you mean where's the research material that substantiates the statement - well I don't claim to be the Dr making the statement - BUT there are copious amounts of various research and information data available via internet search, together with various publications from the likes of Mary Enig and Bruce Fife on the subject.

Such data found by my own search for the benefits by CO - in reading as much as I could ... indeed from your comment I'm sure you'll want to do the same if interested in natural health remedies and health supporting diets.

The best coconut oil is the pure virgin types - so look out for it saying virgin or extra virgin coconut oil. Holland & Barratt sell it at £16.49 for 500ml. I didn't know Lidl sell it - I will certainly check it out.

This on offer - buy one, get another for 1p -

Thats a good deal - but when I asked them some time ago about how it was processed i.e if completely cold pressed - they were unable to confirm the extraction process - so thats why I plumped for the Tiana brand which was for health benefits as oppossed to cooking.

If just for cooking at temp, then extraction wouldn't be relevant, and it would indeed be a fab deal - so a good spot which hopefully will help the OP save a few pennies !

    Hope to help
