Hi All
I gave my mother in law my cross and chain to save for me. My MIL then put it in her jewelry box, which then ended up at my sister in laws.
There has been a major fall out within the family and no matter how hard I try I dont seem to be able to get my cross and chain back. On top of that my sis in law also took my steriliser without asking. When Ive asked for it back again through my Mother in law I was advised that she'd broke it. I have said that she owes me £10 (i consider it to be fair) and again, no response and no tenner.
I am now wondering if this can be done via small claims court or should I go and see a solicitor. All messages to my sis in law have gone through my MIL. I am considering sending her a letter via recorded delivery politely asking for its return within 14 days. But if it isnt returned, what action can I take. This has been ongoing since Jan.

Is this for real! You're asking about solicitors, small claims etc over £10 and a familiy fall out. I suggest you put it down to experience and move on, either that or try and get a seat on Jeremy Kyle.
You do know this is a consumer rights forum?0 -

Just because it's not important to you, doesn't mean its not important to the poster. Presumably they would like their things back, they have a financial value and for a cross and chain probably a sentimental value.
And true, it's not entirely consumer rights, but whichy other forum would you suggest it goes in?wardyswife wrote:I am now wondering if this can be done via small claims court or should I go and see a solicitor.
You can submit it to the small claims court, but how would you prove it. Do you have any emails where they admit to having the items? Without this it's just going to be your word against theirs.
Is there someone in the family who is still on speaking terms with all sides? Could you ask them if they'll have a word, and see if they can get the items back?0 -
I assume you mean that your SIL broke the steriliser. But what does your MIL say about the cross and chain? TBH, I'd write off the steriliser but I'd want my jewellery back. What's happened to it? Have you tried to find out? Why can't your MIL just get the box back seeing as it's hers? Has your husband tried to help? Can he talk to his mother/sister for you?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
