Remote Control a relatives PC

Im often asked to perform various tasks on a relatives computer. Which entails a drive in the car to do. But I could do it from the comfort of my own home if I could remote in to the other computer.

I have 2 computers, one running Win XP Home and the other Windows 7 Home Premium. I'd be remoting into a Windows XP machine (cant remember if its Home or not) so that would rule out using Remote Desktop from my WinXP machine. I use the WinXP machine as my primary computer as I'd have to prize the Win7 machine out of the hands of a teenager to use.

Are there any free remoting tools that someone can suggest. VNC free comes to mind but doesnt support Win7 and seems a bit dated, I'll consider paying for a tool if someone could reccommend one.

TIA

+1 for TeamViewer. Free for personal use.
How do I add a signature?

LogMeIn? There's also an app for it in Apple's App Store. (It works fine from my Ipod to connect to and control my Win7 laptop).

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • Can't you just use Remote Desktop?

    Just downloaded it.
Initially it wasnt obvious what to do just by reading their website but once I found a PDF tutorial it was a breeze - wow thumbs up.

I set up logmein free on my parent's computer years ago, but if I was doing it again then I'd go with teamview as suggested above.

Teamviewer does it for me too. I vaguely remember trying various other solutions, but Teamviewer is just so easy to use (for both me & the non-techie person I'm helping out!). It works well in both Linux and Windows, too...

FYI - there's also an app for Teamviewer. :)

ETA: Which works very well (just tested it). :)
