Can't pay Tesco Mobile bill - Not sure what to do!

Bit of an odd one but any help would be great.

About 3 years ago I got an iPhone for Christmas and had really bad credit. My dad and I entered an agreement where I would pay him my bill money and it would be in his name.

It was a good contract and we kept it rolling.

We then moved and he moved in with his gf and I bought a house with my fiance (And now my credit is V good!)

My dad had all the stuff in his name.

My dad's credit card has run out and due to this they can't take money from the bill. There is about £60 on the bill which I can afford BUT

they won't let me pay it. They won't let me add a new card. They won't even accept my dad's new card as he didn't change the address on the mobile account.

My dad HATES the phone and HATES dealing with people (thus why it still has our old address on) He is refusing to speak to them and sadly, as a girl, despite knowing all my dad's information I can't blag it and won't know anybody who would be able to do it for me.

My dad has since moved in with partner. Sold their house and moved into a static caravan with no council tax etc (so they aren't registered to vote anywhere) I doubt he will ever try and get credit again etc.

I am quite willing to pay but despite explaining the situation to both Tesco and my dad neither will budge on either letting me pay or getting my dad to call up and cancel it on the phone.

I'm sorely tempted to let it go to DC but at the same time I've spent so long sorting out my own debts it feels like a debt!

Any advice?

(I've got a new phone line btw, GiffGaff, tenner a month and even better than this one!)

  • If you have their bank details and a reference number, can't you just make the payment via your bank account.

So it used to be paid from his credit card?

Does the statement not detail the different ways you can pay a bill and show a sort code and account number that you can use to make a payment direct from your own bank via internet banking?

It's your Dad's credit that will get trashed. And your phone that will get cut off due to non-payment.

If you have good credit why not get your own phone contract, hand the iPhone back to your Dad and he can deal with it.

Might sound harsh but your Dad hasn't really been very helpful up until now.

In this situation, write to Tesco Mobile - a proper letter, and keep a copy and advise that you are willing to pay on Dad's behalf - and that they have refused to take payment over the phone. Ask them for details of how to pay. Give Dad a copy too and keep one yourself.

My feeling is that sooner or later the shin could hit the fat over this. And although Dad might want his head in the sand now, it would be better to have this letter written now [and to pay up if they are on the ball] and keep it available to take the rug form under the debt collectors later.
