Cheap flights to Newcastle

Hi
i'm looking to go to newcastle with my son in about 4 weeks and was hoping to fly as it will be quicker and easier with a 3 year old!
I have been looking at flights and the cheapest i can find is £180 for both of us return from gatwick, does this sound about right or do you think i could get some cheaper, does anyone hve any advice or tips please?

If you can leave from Stansted it will be cheaper.

    Or try
    https://www.jet2.com leaving from Gatwick

    Or from Heathrow with

You could try looking for flights to durham tees valley too AM, it's just as easy to get to where you are going from there as it is from Newcastle airport. Gives you more options of cheap airlines to choose from :)

Durham Tees Valley IS NOT a good choice for Newcastle - there is one train A WEEK and it's about 30 miles by car. Bus travel is also a joke, especially compared with Newcastle airport where it's walk to Metro, get on Metro, get off Metro 25 minutes later

Personally I don't think flying is any quicker than taking the train from London - and it's a lot cheaper - see https://www.gner.co.uk . The train to Gatwick or Stansted could cost more than the train to Newcastle and that doesn't include the costs of the flight

And can you imagine how much fun it's going to be taking a 3 year old through check-in, through airport security, boarding then hanging around for luggage on arrival

I actually live 10 mins from gatwick, does anyone know how long it takes on the train to newcastle?
I just thought flying would be easier than a long train journey but i looked on a website and i'd need to get Photo ID for my son to fly.

Yeah i checked on the gner website and from gatwick it's 4 and a half hours total travelling time which isnt too bad, and it will only cost £60 as i dont have to pay for little man.
