Statute barred means the debts can't be pursued through the courts. It doesn't mean it can't be chased or that the money isn't still owed. Surely the friend was the cheeky one for breaking the credit card agreement and not paying what she owed. I wonder how many people on these boards who think it's great to not pay what you owe would be so pleased if they were not paid large sums of money due to them.

Whilst being statute barred doesn't mean it can't be chased. Once a debtor has informed the creditors/debt collector that the debt is statute barred and they do not intend to pay then at that point they do have to stop chasing.

To your other question - I guess if I was owed a large sum of money - I'd take court action against the debtor before the debt became statute barred - just as this person's creditor could have done.

    Is your Google broken?

It kills the humour to explain a joke, but it's a pun on the misspelling of statute as statue.

It was a little freindly good natured leg-pulling, no need to take that attitude.

I think everyone knew what he meant. Sarcasm doesn't come across well on the internet.

Anyway, if you have nothing constructive to add, move along.
