Statute barred?

Hi guys a friend had a credit card debt that she stopped paying 8-9 years ago.
I only just found out she was contacted about a year ago by a collections agency and she set up a repayment plan with them and she has been paying it for about a year.

The debt was blatantly statue barred and the cheeky collections agency has somewhat tricked her into paying this.

The question really is where does she stand with this?
I mean as it was statue barred and she has started repaying is the 6 year clock reset, or can she stop paying and send them a letter informing them it is statue barred?

Thanks in advance,

Paxon.

If there was ever a period of 6 years between the last payment and when she started paying again the debt can't be unbarred.

    Stop paying.

There is a template letter that can be used for this circumstance - see post #6 of this - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2607247

Can someone tell me where this famous statue is that lets people off paying their debts. I have heard a lot about it would like to go and see what it looks like.
  • Statute barred means the debts can't be pursued through the courts. It doesn't mean it can't be chased or that the money isn't still owed. Surely the friend was the cheeky one for breaking the credit card agreement and not paying what she owed. I wonder how many people on these boards who think it's great to not pay what you owe would be so pleased if they were not paid large sums of money due to them.
