I have just got my wireless router Netgear dg834g( which AOL sent for free) and i am trying to set up but dont know where to start...... sigh
I have been reading the wireless stickie, but not finding what i need to know so hope someone can help
As my laptop is on its way i want to set up my pc first, but want to set it wired as i got a bit worried after reading a few threads about security
and then just set the laptop wireless
Basically i dont want any files or any internet from pc to be wireless as i do banking online etc
Is this possible? or do they have to be all wireless?
A quick easy explanation would very helpful
thanks

This webpage should help yopu get started but in Step 11, use WPA-PSK encryption and not WEP which is insecure.
Most things are covered in these two threads from the wireless sticky i.e. how to setup secure WPA encryption with a long random key:

There is no need to install ANY AOL bloatware on your PC, as the router will connect to AOL and stay connected 24/7. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
The dg834g has 4 wired ethernet ports. Just connect your PC to one of those with a patch cable (there should be a Cat 5 cable in the box with the router)0

the netgear is one of the best and easiest routers to set up. ive done lots/hundreds of em.
you should not have any real problems. best to set it up wired at first, then change to wireless once working ok.Get some gorm.0
