New HSBC Account

I opened a new account online with HSBC. I got a letter arrive a few days later welcome to HSBC and all i needed to do was take a sample of signature into any branch to be processed. A few weeks later and all i have is a paying in book. I rang them today to be told i have to go into a branch with photo ID and they will order my debit card. Its odd to me or has anyone else had similar experience with this bank or is this their normal procedure. I was told on the phone its because i opened the account online.
Onwards and Upwards ;)

I got the signature request (filled in and returned) plus security questions request (refused to fill in that one). They wouldn't order anything for me until I had passed the 14 days 'cooling off' period, and then I would need to take in my full driving license as proof of id to order them.

So I'd say it was normal.

I ended up cancelling the application as I didn't agree with their T&Cs. The account is now on my credit report (one month (S)), so they did open it, but closed it the same month.
