This is the particulars of her claim.

In Mid November Mr X started work for me. We agreed on a price of £850 which I gave to him (her letter dated beginning of April states the price she agreed with him was £425)
Half way through the job Mr X asked for another £850 (not true but we're not worried about this seeing as she would have to prove he asked for it. He never asked therefore there can't be any proof)
He stopped working and refused to finish the job unless I paid him another £800 (again not true but my OH has a text msg from this woman saying don't come back. Whether a text can be used as proof I don't know but we have something that at least shows she stopped the work, not him)
I therefore request a full refund to finish the job with another fitter. This money is to cover the costs of materials.

I don't really understand it tbh!
OK, so how much was the whole job for and how much was paid initially?

And most importantly, what evidence do you have of the price for the job?

This is what you need to defend the case.

I'm little confused. You say the original quote was for £425 and presumably this is what she paid your OH and he supplied the materials that she's now saying he didn't. Yet in your first post you state that your OH left the job because she refused to pay. Pay what exactly?

    Ignore the differing amounts.

She's basically saying she paid £X for a job to be done, including the cost of materials, and that your OH didn't finish the job, so she wants to claim the cost of whatever the amount is to get someone else to finish it.

    1. Did she pay £850 up front? You say in your OP that half way through the job she refused to pay. What was your OH going to take her to court for?

    2. How much of this was materials, and how much was labour? You'll need all the receipts for the materials.

    3. Why did your OH not finish the job if she paid the £850 up front? Or was more money due?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
