I'm looking at buying my first car soon.
One thing thats concerning me is that last year (just before I passed my test) I heard car insurance was going up for women drivers. When will this be happening?
Also I am a 19 year old student. Does anyone know how I can get the price lower apart from putting one of my parents onto the insurance?
Thank you

sometime at the end of the year the gender statistic they use will become obsolete, so all genders will pay the same rate.
you can ad anyone you wish to your policy as a NAMED DRIVER, you cant put a experienced person on your policy as main driver and you named driver and then drive the most miles this is fronting and can lead to all sorts of possible problems when you need you insurers the most.
experienced named driver> anyone who's over 25 (30 idealy) been driving a long time with no accidents points or refused insurance in the near past, working, full time, and will be a infrequent driver of the vehicle.
choose the car you intend on buying very carefully, make model CC.
think out the box.
security discounts you look into thathem rated antitheft devices.
be carefull of tracker device insurance companies, if you drive in peak hours and use the vehicle late at night your not going to benefit some insurers with these devices also track your drive style and "reward you" for good driving to THEIR standards those standards may not possibly be met hence you will be charged accordingly.
hope ive helped.0 -
My original plan was to put my mum on the policy as a named driver - but for some reason thats increased my policy price.
I've mostly been looking at Vauxhall Corsa's and Nissan Micra's with a max engine size of 1.4
I'm quite confused because I looked at a car last week which was £120 a month and today the same car was £180 a month!!0 -
I think the prices can vary depending what time of day you check.
I have been looking at different cars and insurance prices for my 19 year old son and the prices are shocking!!
I have found that a car with an engine size of less than 1.2l is mostly cheaper but the prices are still ridiculously high.
I have put myself as a named driver and that took quite a bit off the insurance price but the cheapest quote we have had is £1998 and that was for a car which the insurance valued at £400.
Thankfully he is in no hurry to get his own car at the moment.0 -
I've now been looking all morning and because I'm planning on getting a car in September that will lower the premium a bit (because I will have had my license longer)
Most the cars I've been looking at are 1.2L which means TAX will be cheaper as well. Most cars I've looked at as well I've maid sure they've got a bit of TAX and MOT left (I'm always a bit suspicious of a car with no MOT or TAX).
Fully comp has generally been the cheapest option for me.
I've now managed to get a premium of around £130 which is'nt bad considering last night it was £180!!0 -

You have not said how old the cars are you are looking at but if they are more than 7 years old you need to look for cars with more than a bit of MOT. Generally, people only sell cars with a months MOT left for a reason, they know it will fail and the cost can soon mount up. It is worth the time to search out a car with the best part of a years MOT0 -
if that is £130+ per month insurance a few £ on tax is not that relevent.
Don't just look at small engine popular with young cars look at others some will be cheaper to buy and insure.
LONG MOT.
Clear your browser cache when searching or save good quotes.
get quotes by reg where possible, any will do for the type of car.0 -
Just curious (I'm not too great with computers!!) how can I clear my browser cache?
And how will this help to lower my quote?0 -
It wont and it wont stop the companies tracing your previous quotes or attempts at manipulating your quotes either.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

But will browsing various cars and changing the type of cover make my pemium go up?
Like I said I'm not looking to buy til September but i'm checking insurance now so that I can budget a little better0 -
Changing car and type of cover is fine.
They get suspicious when you change things like access to other cars, period license held, where it's parked, mileage etc.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0
