Cat wont use litter tray??

What are you using to clean the floor after he poos on it?
Many cleaners dont fully get rid of the smell (your cat can smell it even though we cant) so he's more likely to poo on the same spot again.
Go down to your local pet shop and they will advise you on the best cleaner they have to fully eradicate the smell he leaves on the floor when he poos0 -
very odd that it's just no.2's that he's doing this with & i can't offer any specific advice for that, but in general (a few already mentioned) -
try different types of litter & trays, i think if they tend to scratch the sides/lid or outside of the box when trying to cover up it means they aren't too keen on the litter,
try not to have trays in corners where there's only 1 way in & out, so they don't feel cornered with no escape route,
make sure the trays are no where near their food or water as this will put them off using the tray,
some cats prefer a tray that has their smell in it, if it's too clean they won't use it
i've got 2 bengals that have got 4 trays around the house & their toilet habits can be a little odd to say the least! we used to have no end of accidents as i was doing nearly everything wrong, but they've got me well trained now
hope you get something sorted for him, i know how frustrating it can be with toilet problems, there is normally a reason for it though, so don't give up!0 -
I think i have tried 4 different types of litter so far and he has done the same with every one of them there are 2 different types down at the moment!
No where near his food, their not in a corner, using flash floor cleaner to clean it after he has been!
Asked in the pet shop a few times now and they have now run out of ideas of what else to try!0 -
not too sure that Flash floor cleaner is a good idea? i'm sure i've read that some cleaners can mimic the scent & encourage them to go back to the same spot. i've got something like this for any accidents, do a clean up with an anti=bacterial spray (nothing too powerful) then spray the odour remover when finished.
just had a search & found these links, hopefully there might be something in here -

Have you tried to put some soil in the litter tray ?
If they are used to going outside then sometimes this helps, also sometimes cats like to use the cheapest litter so if you are using the anti-smell or antibacterial ones, nice to us but some cats dont like them0 -

this is exactly what my boy does.... he is excellent at using the tray but when he has a poo he kicks all the litter out of the way and poos on the plastic at the bottom of the tray and then scratches the laminate floor to try and cover it!!
and then I ( slave) have to clean up straight away as he hates a dirty tray!!
the litter i use is BIO_CATOLET...its 100% eco friendly and dust free....and is recycled newspaper...0 -
Sorry to hear you are still having problems OP x
Have you tried ripped up newspaper in the tray? Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
clutching at straws a bit here but you say you re-homed him, was he doing this wherever he was before? might give you a clue as to whether it's his new home environment or perhaps a behavioural problem??0

Quick update he has now been neutered and is still going on the floor....
The house that he came from he wasn't very well looked after so it is quite possible that this is what he was used to!
We move house on friday so im going to have to keep him in for 2 weeks im hoping i can cure the problem in that time0 -
He would become a outside cat very quickly if he lived here and thought that defecating in the house was a good idea.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
