Help with home cinema

HI there, can somebody please help me with setting up a home cinema system?

I have recently bought a LG 5.1 3D Blu ray disc home cinema system BDH9000 and although the speakers work fine whilst watching a DVD, I would like to be able to wire it up so that I can use the home cinema speakers whilst watching my normal TV / Sky HD system. My current TV is a Panasonic TX-P50C2B.

I've tried scarts from all appliances, purchased a DOS link in the hope that it might solve the problem, messed about with the settings on the remotes, all to no avail, somewhere I think I'm missing the point.

Would anyone be kind enough to tell me where I'm going wrong? And point me in the right direction. All good advice appreciated.

Many thanks

Nick

I don't see any mention of inputs on the specs?
If it doesnt have inputs(as many of these types of units don't) then you wont be able to do as you wish

When you say DOS link, do you mean TOS link (optical)? Looks like this:
    optical%20cable.jpg

If so, plug one end into the optical socket on your TV, and one into the home cinema kit. The optical socket will normally look a bit like this:
    optical.jpg
(it will usually have a flap, and you may be able to see a light coming from it).

Then, when you are watching the TV, use the 'Radio & input' button on the top left of the home cinema remote and select "optical in" or "digital in" (LG's website isn't working for me, so I can't check the exact wording, sorry!)
Forget that, your remote should have a button labelled "optical" just to the right of the volume buttons. Press that

If you only use Sky for your TV, you could alternatively put the cable in the optical socket on the Sky box instead of the TV, but this would mean that only Sky and Blu-rays are sent through the cinema system.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Your system has one and one only optical in according to the manual.

you should connect the TOSlink (optical) cable from the SKY HD box optical out to the LG optical in. you might need set the SKY HD box to output the optical signal in audio settings. Then select the optical input on the remote of the LG.

As for everything you can see and hear through your TV , like for example a XBOX or play station unfortunatly you do not have the inputs in your LG system. you could swap them every time though.

This is the biggest down fall of so called "Home Cinema in box" i'm afraid.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
