  • Morning all,

I'm not doing the challenge properly yet, but thought I'd report a bit to get me in the habit. Needed to go to MrT on Saturday as had a couple of friends for BBQ and needed fruit, bread and a couple of fresh items. Went with £20 and spent 21.08 ( had the odd quid in my purse) but having OH with me we ended up with mustard, chocolate ph!llidelphia and a couple of other random things that were not on my list arghhhhhh!

I used to read Weezl's thread on here, again few yrs back living on 50p a day. She was just amazing and so creative. I always remember lentil pât! from her recipes. Is yummy and kind of tastes meaty. Will be reading her a blog now :)

All those pies and pasties have made me very hungry, I'm a sucker for a nice pie and gravy...mmmmm

I'll have eggs on toast for brunch/lunch a bit later. OH is going to he dad's tonight, I'll stay in as have a bit of uni stuff to get done so will have chicken and salad from the BBQ on Saturday so overall a cheap day :) and I'm not going anywhere to spend money so will def be a NSD too!

Hope you have a good day everyone

Today, after doing my weekly shop, I calculated how much money I have spent on groceries in May. It totalled £228.00  We are only 11 days in! Our normal monthly spend is about £320.00 -£340.00 so I am staggered I have spent so much already. However the cupboards and the freezer provide the evidence as I cannot physically get anything else in them. They are groaning under the strain.

So my plea to you is to help keep me on track. I do not need to buy anything more until next weekend, and then, it will need only to be fresh fruit, veg, bread and packed lunch items.

I am very good at meal plans, but not so good at sticking to them. Keeping an account here should keep me focused.

    Thanking you all in advance.

    Hi tjp,

I've added your thread to our May Grocery Challenge where you'll get lots of help, advice and support in reducing your grocery bills.

Good luck - hope it goes well for you
    Hi everyone

If I make homemade mini Yorkshire Puddings - can I freeze them - I want to make a batch for DS who loves them but he won't eat 12 in 1 sitting [well he would but I won't let him lol]

Answer - yes you can - oh the wonders of googling lol

I never thught of freezing them. Wow what a good idea. When DD in on pancake mode for breakfast I have often have mix left over. Now I'll cook it up into YP for the freezer. DD has the same breakfast for about 3 or 4 months and then moves onto something else. She had pancakes this morning so the timing of this post couldn't have been better.

You can also freeze pancakes, if you put greaseproof paper between them.

    I'm kicking myself.

I just went the Indian supermarket to get some lentils and discovered that the 2kg bags are cheaper in Tesco do didn't buy em (Ts 2.29, indian shop £2.79). But....

They had 10kilo bags of opinions for 99p!!!
    Yes I said 10 kilos!!!
I paid £1.29 for 5 kilos at Lidl in Saturday:mad:

I bought em anyway. I kept thinking onion soup, etc.

They also had 5 mega big pots of live yoghurt for £1 and 4 tins if tons for a quid, four tins of chick peas for a quid etc.
I spent 15 odd quid. It would have been 14 odd quid but upon checking my receipt, I found that they hadn't charged me for the onions (left them in trolley and pointed them out instead of lugging them into the conveyer belt). I went back in and paid :A

  • Hi
It's cold and raining here :(
NSD today. Porkchops defrosting (ys of course!) which I will roast with wedges of potato, parsnip and pear and add rosemary, garlic and lemon. Kids are having some shepherds pie (from freezer) with carrots. Swimming night tonight so I like to have some hm ready meals which can be ready quickly.

Might break my NSD if I see someone selling eggs on my way to swimming as we go past a farm.
