I couldn't remember which thread JJ posted the recipe. :o I have put my result on here as - I had run out of water biscuits for my lunch. I wanted today to be a NSD so - I had one of the JJ recipe makes I baked last night. I will have another go at this recipe - until I get it right! My mix was way too wet - added more flour but it was really wet! So I had to bake for ages with the heat turned down to dry out the excess moisture - so I am saying mine looked rustic!!
However - the taste was wonderful! Mr F had one too and loved it - I told him - they will be nicer when I get them right! :) We had some of my HM pickled onions - October 2009 - still crunchy - I like spicy pickled onions. The ones you buy have additives/preservatives/colouring - mine don't have that but keep fine!
I thought showing my baking mishap is good - I have been cooking since I was 18 - got married young! Everyone has failures - we just have to try again.

Florenceem you really are an inspiration! love cheese and pickles! yours actually 'look' healthier than the shop ones if that makes sense. Maybe it's cos they are brown lol. That curry you made looked nice too (even though I dont like prawns lol!). :T:T

So you got a good result then?

Yes Florenceem - just tested and a definite winner!! Crusty on the outside and soft inside :T

I beat the egg with a bit of milk, and stirred that in, then just dribbled in more milk until it came together like a scone mix does.

Thanks for the recipe JJ :D

Well - two of us on MSE have found the mix too wet - so try cutting down the amount of milk.

Well done! So glad you tried it:T:)

My scales are archaic. probably best to reduce milk or to increase the flour to 9oz. :)

I loved craig's suggestions of adding sundried tomatoes and playing with ingredients:T

Chuffed to bits that some have tried it:j

    Hi

Just popping in to report £16.07 on a MacDonalds and 2 sneaky vanilla slices DH bought (and ate) while I was out .

    Will update signature.

On a slightly different note. I have accumalated 3 £10 of £80 spends at Tesco all to be used next week. Not sure whether to use these all and try to meal plan within an inch of my life or whether I'll just end up wasting money and should just spent as I go? Does anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks
    Claire

  • The food pictures are so lovely and inspirational! As are all the stories and tips - your all great! In fact, I was at a dinner party yesterday and found myself in a foody conversation and I started to divulge MSE insights...such as meal planning and the deviancy of SM's. I got a funny look from the chap I was talking too... but honestly, he was saying such blasphemos things as "I don't know the price of milk!!!" Was a lovely time but it brought it home to me how different peoples attitudes to money are.

I am checking in to state a big spend of £68.5 today. Annoyed with myself as I bought things that were already in... I thought I had a good overview but otherhalf who cooked pasta last said we needed it so I bought two big bags, when packing away two were already in the cupboards!! Grr... Same thing happened with rice, which we had plenty of and so it went on. I must do a stock list like some have mentioned here, that should sort out the double/tripple/etc buying.

I did get some bargains and useful bits of meat but I have now used a third of my budget and we're just a week into my May GC. I now have to use up what I have before I go shopping again next weekend.

In other MSE news I went to a flea market today and got a massive kitchen/food processor machine for £10. Haven't checked it over in detail yet but am really pleased with what I have seen so far. Which means I shall have an easier time of baking bread and that sort of thing, yay! :T

Hope all are well this saturday evening :p
Finally had my eyes opened and I am ready to tackle my debts!
