Steaming up the road in a cloud of vapour (& not from the speed, lol) = new car on the wish list for next year then.
Think I'll go ahead with the trailer tent ... will report back in the future, good or badJust wanted to make sure I'd be legal on the road.

you need to find out the Gross Train Weight for your Punto - should be on plate under bonnet
just because your trailer is within the towing weight for your car, it doesnt mean you can load up the car with all the extra weight you want to carry. 3 adults, 2 dogs, portaloo and camping stuff, means your punto will be full to bursting

GTW 13875.
Never having had a trailer/caravan of my own, question. If I were to buy one I think I'd need to get a number plate (my cars) to put on the back of the trailer?
And do ownership papers come with one?0 -
A number plate is a few quid off ebay,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MoT-Compliant-Number-Plates-GB-EURO-Free-Postage-/350558577733?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item519eeb6445
and that's about 4 fat blokes in the car, so no problem.
Not normally any papers required with a trailer, but it should have a plated weight on it.0 -

If you really want to save money, you could take the rear number plate off your car and put it on the back of the trailer tent when you are towing it.And do ownership papers come with one?
Nope. Just a receipt, if you are lucky.0 -
have you got a tow bar yet make sure you get some quotes, i know some puntos need strengthening plates welded to were the tow bar attaches wich puts price up as looked into it myself but cant remember how you can tell.

700kg and braked makes me wonder if thats not the gross laden weight figure.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

As title, I have a 1.2 Punto and am on the verge of buying a trailer tent (it is 700kg weight & braked).
I passed my driving test in 1982.
I've looked at a website that quotes weights etc and it says my Punto has a kerb weight of 875, and an 85% weight of 743. But this has left me scratching my head - does the 85% weight mean I can tow something up to that weight? Would it be safe to tow a trailer tent? (Nothing would be added to the 700kg weight, all stuff would go in the car)
Advice much appreciated, many thanks.Hmmmm, must have added an extra digit - GTW is 1385
No chance of pulling 700kg then, sorry."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
