Dont switch

I was "persuaded" to change from Scottish Hydro to Ovo Energy.
However, Ovo's welcome pack got put in trash and I didn't see it until it was past the deadline for 14 days cooling off. Meanwhile Hydro bribed me to go back to them. They said they'd do all the paperwork.
Now Ovo says they will charge me £30 per fuel to break their contract. Should I go back to Ovo or have I now broken the Hydro contract?
"THEY" should not be allowed to keep pestering you to change and if you do "THEY" should let it be and not interfere.
I'm now totally confused and FURIOUS.

If you've gone past the cooling off-period then you are contracted and OVO have every right to charge you an ETC. Presumably you are not yet in that position with SH. If the saving to stay with SH is more than £60 during the contract term, stay with them and pay the ETC-just hit the comp sites to find out.
Why blame everyone else for your indecision and failure to check the paperwork? All you had to say was 'no thank you'. Why sign up on a cold call when you can use a comp site and keep the commission for yourself?
The reason they write to you as the outgoing supplier is to avoid the risk of an erroneous transfer-it's for your protection.

What do you mean by "bribed"? Were they offering to pay the OVO early termination charges? If so what's the problem if that is what you want to do?

I switched back from Ovo to SP and have always switched on a regular basis and to say dont switch is rubbish. If in the OP case they cant handle it then dont even go there. For me it works well.

    How were you "persuaded"?

If OVO were confirmed by a couple of comparison sites as being the cheapest for you, why would you want to switch back to a more expensive supplier?

If you were 'bribed', by way of cashback, I certainly hope it was for more than £30 difference after the higher prices of the more expensive supplier were taken into account, which would more than cover the cancellation fee.
I certainly would not be tempted to switch to an otherwise more expensive supplier for less than £30 difference especially, as MSE Martin says, cashback is not guaranteed until it is in your bank account.

  • All of you are of course quite correct.
It was my own indecision which caused the problem.
I'm now trying to stick with Ovo and cancelling the return to Hydro - which of course, they are already not happy about. But I'm within the cooling off period with them. Thanks for advice!
But I dont know how Rupert Bear switches back and forth and can stay sane!

Switching takes about 10 minutes online...if you don't keep changing your mind afterwards.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.:D
