I have an electrical problem with my radio on a corsa c 2005, i hope someone can help with: about a week ago the dipped lights when out both at the same time, got that sorted but, since then the clock and cig lighter do not work. The radio worked but when you take out the ignition key it carries on playing, it has now stopped working also. i hope someone could offer some advice on this problem-Thanks.

Whoever fixed your lights, they just swapped a fuse over. They must have pulled the fuse out for your other stuff and used it for the lights, then not bothered replacing it......

Or they randomly pulled out fuses to test them and then stuck one back into an unused fuse slot/holder.

I hope they only charged for 10mins labour, because swapping a fuse takes seconds.

For both bulbs to go at the same time you were either very unlucky, or your voltage isn't right. Did the mechanic check the output from the alternator? If the regulator goes it can spike up if you rev the car hard.

If you are unsure get a multimeter and test it before driving anywhere else - if you blow up the ECU it will be an expensive repair. The battery should test +/- 0.2V...

    12.4V at rest
14V when engine running, poss a bit lower when idling
12.8V when you turn the engine off

Thanks for the reply. I though the same, but the mechanic said that these new bulbs are set to last only so many hours and it is not that unusual for both to blow at the same time.

They are in theory rated the same but it's still incredibly rare for them to go together. Personally for the sake of less than five minutes I would still check what voltage your alternator is kicking out, unless your mechanic tells you that all radios have a limited life and it's normal for it to fail on a seven year old car .
