Student bursary and ESA

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me trying to work out how bursaries and student loans effect benefits and vice versa.
I am currently a second year student nurse. I live alone and receive an income assessed nhs student bursary of £4614 per annum, along with a student maintenance loan of £2324 per annum, although this will be less next year for my final year of studies. I am not in receipt of any benefits because apparently unless I am a single mother I do not qualify. Therefore I work a part-time job at a local hospital doing as many hours as I possibly can as the bursary and loan are not enough to pay the rent, bills and food.
I have a long-term partner of the past 6 years who currently lives a long way away and who I barely get to see due to financial considerations. He has recently had his incapacity benefit stopped and is currently in receipt of £50 per week ESA as he awaits his appeal to be heard. So he may in the future be claiming JSA instead but no one knows at this time. He is not in receipt of any further benefits as he is currently living with his parents.
I am keen for us to move in together and eventually start a family once I have graduated and working full-time, before I become too old. 6 years is long enough to wait to begin living together as a couple, but I am worried about what will happen with the financial situation. If I were to lose any of my bursary I would then not be able to pay the bills. My finances are budgeted to the penny, and obviously if he were to lose all his benefit we would not be able to afford food for the both of us.
Is anyone able to shed any light on what would happen for me?
Many thanks.
