I think you need to go to the police.

    I think so too :(

I think the police would take the threats very seriously indeed. Even if you don't take it any further unless you need to, at least it's all down in black and white.

No wonder you changed your mind about selling to them :(

Do you really want to move to the new house considering they know where you'll be? Would it bother you?

Yes, every time you post and the story unfolds it sounds gradually worse and this is definitely harrassment and seeing your solictor for advice and going to the police / court is well worthwhile to stop this.

Once you've made it clear that you do not wish any contact whatsoever from them, they are harrassing you if they ignore that.

It's not worth worrying about freaks when you're doing your best to live a normal life and sell your house.

Get whatever order is needed to keep them away from you because they are simply trying to intimidate you and ask things of you which are both illegal (in terms of helping to con your neighbours) and in the realms of fantasy (asking you to alter your house before the purchase and let them move in etc). Try and record phonecalls or get a trace put on the line which you can activate when they call. I've had one of these before when I was being harrassed and it logs their number as proof.

If you go to the police, make written statements detailing everything from irrational behaviour to the threats and try to support your statements with neighbours if they'll willingly state that they have seen or heard anything or been approached directly by these people in a concerning fashion.

You're definitely within your rights and not wasting anyone's time to do this. Their actions are not rational which is a cause for concern for your property/sanity/health whatever!

these people are complete nutjobs. If they want the place so much slap on an extra £100,000 onto the asking price to see just how desperate they are for your flat. As for the house you were looking to buy, I think you should look for a different place otherwise these people could hassle you indefinitely.

I feel really sorry for you that you're in this position. If it was me, I'd get as far away from these people as possible!
    :D
  • We went to the police, and they don't want to know. They said these people haven't done anything criminal. She can come here and wander around and as it's private property it's a civil matter, not criminal. We let them listen to a voicemail message where she's going on about having the neighbours evicted, and they didn't bat an eyelid. All just hot air apparently. Everything's civil around here I think. :rolleyes2 I still can't get over the fact that they don't mind being recorded on voicemail talking about stuff like that.

I don't think our local force has a very good reputation. And they don't understand harassment law at all. They're hopeless. We would call them if the pair turned up and got violent though, but they're not much use in any other circumstance I'm afraid.

We'll speak to a solicitor on Monday, and hope the mad pair don't turn up and start boiling bunnies in our kitchen before then. :rolleyes2
  • They do sound mad.

But just as an aside, surely the EA shouldn't have told you who was buying another house, that's a Data Protection issue isn't it? If he's told you that about them, what's he told them about you? I think I'd take yours off the market for a week or two and start again with a whole new agent.
My sig's too large, apparently - so apologies to whoever's space I was taking up.:lipsrseal

That's not helpful is it, the police are meant to be protecting us from people like that. That's the problem though isn't it, they can't do anything until a crime has been committed - and by then it's too late to protect the victim.

I can't moan about the police though, they don't make the law do they, they just put themselves in the firing line to make sure it's upheld.

Can I ask which force you're under? Just out of nosiness, really. I've had to call the police a couple of times in the past (car was vandalised and I had a nutter for a landlord) and there was nothing they could do either time... in fact, the vandals even signed their names on my car...:lipsrseal

I would start again from scratch, remarket your house with a different agent (telling them under NO circumstances do you want this couple to view), and then buy a different house to the one you wer going to buy.

Or rent in between selling and buying so that they lose track of you.

What a dreadful situation to be in....

She didn't confirm the identity of the buyers until hubbie had given her all the info and explained the situation. I think she was just stunned... but you're right, it does make you wonder what else she does that she shouldn't.

We're in north Somerset. When we lived in our last place the local station was great, so it was a shock to the system when we encountered the police here. They don't just go on about it all being civil, they look smug when they do it, or bored.

Hopefully the nutty pair's latest scheme will keep them occupied for a while and we'll have time to get some legal help.
