Better off working 12 or 16 hours?

Hi all
I'm a single parent, i currently work 16 hours so receive wtc.
My boss has offered me to drop a shift, I don't have to, this would mean working 12 hours, losing £27.20 in wages a week and also £78.02 in wtc.
If I was to do this would my ctc go up to cover it all or am I better off staying with my 16 hours?
In September I will be going full time
Please help

You are much better off staying at 16 hours.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Your CTC won't change at all if you dropped hours, if you get WTC then you get max CTC.
Other benefits may increase, eg LHA/housing/council tax ben. May also get free school meals.
But as above you'll definitely be better off on 16 hours0 -
You can model this change on the Turn2us online benefit calculator. What does it say?0

Would you not feel better about yourself by continuing to work 16 hours a week to support yourself and your family, rather than choosing to work even less and to be more reliant on benefits?0 -
Thank you so much, youre all totally correct according to turn2us calculator, didn't know that existed.
Thanks guys that's great

Elvis, Obviously I'd rather work.
You don't know my full situation so I'd appreciate not being judged.0 -

I know that you currently work only 16 hours a week but are considering dropping your hours by 25% again if by some anomally in the benefits system, it proves more financially beneficial.;)0 -
op also states she will be going full time in september though, so really dont think it has anything to do with being better off on benefits as such.
op- i wouls advise staying at 16 simply because of the havoc it would cause with under/overpayments and disregards for the tax credits. not sure it would be worth the hassle for the sake of 4 hours ha ha0 -
Id stick to what have coming in now and see how things pan out come September, it's only a few months away and the hassle just isn't worth it.0
