laptop password , help please.

Hi, DH friend has asked me to sort out his 2 boys laptops.
One is sorted thanks to the help I received from the Techie forum, but one still needs sorting out.

The friend gave me the password and naturally I have forgotten it.
How many times can I put in the wrong password?
Will it lock completely and become unusable?

I have time now to work on the laptop.... have contacted friend but no reply

if it's a windows log-on password, boot from hiren's bootcd, and remove the password with the offline password editor - it's one of the options on the menu :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
