Mail not sent to me & Outlook

Some time ago a company I was involved with set up an alias email account for me so that any mail sent to that address was redirected to my main email address. They have now ceased to exist but the mail is still being sent to me and I cannot trace anyone to close down the email address.

All the mail I receive is Spam and it is growing daily presumably as the address is shared amngst spammers.

I use 'Cloudmark' to filter the Spam but it doesn't seem to have a facility to deal with this problem. Is there any way I can set up a filter in Outlook to send this mail for immediate deletion without it affecting my other mail.

Why not simply remove this account from Outlook?

Can you use whois or similar to find out who is providing the re-direction service and get them to kill the account?

What is the bit after the @?

    Hi

if you look in the email headers you should see information on where the email is being forwarded from (domain name) you should then do a whois search to find the contact and ask them to remove the forwarding.

or set up a rule in your email client to send the mail to the spam folder cloudmark creates.

Thanks. It was Fasthosts so have sent them an email to see if they can help though I suspect they may refuse as I am not the account holder. Will let you know if I get any response.

Fasthosts will not refuse if you tell them that you object to the bulk spam that one of their servers is sending you and demand that the forwarder be removed.

I use fasthosts for my hosting and they've always had great customer service so I'd be surprised if they weren't willing to help.

They will be able to see that your email addy is the one that the junk is being forwarded to so all the have to do is send you a request for confirmation that you wnat the fwd to cease and that should be that!!!

If you don't manage to get the forward stopped, you need to set up a message rule. This is based on Outlook 2003 but 2002 and 2000 are similar and you can hopefully adapt it.

Click on the "Tools" menu and then "Rules and alerts." Then select "New rule" and "Start from a blank rule." Then choose the "Sent to people or distribution list" check box and click on the underlined part to specify the e-mail address you want blocked. This would have to be in your address book so add it if it's not already.

Click "Next" and then click on "Permanently delete it." Click Finish and whilst the e-mail will still be received, you'll never, ever see it. Note that this would also apply to any test mail sent so that you could turn off the forward (or any genuine mail where that other address was on copy) so it's a "quick and dirty" solution but it should be very effective.
