Warning to all single tax credit claimants !!

  • They might just be referring to credit searches when things like credit cards or insurance are applied for. If the Nrp is stating that the old family home is still their main address then this is quite suspicious or even fraudulent if untrue.
  • I received a letter this week to say my claim is being routinely investigated but they are asking for alot of information. The letter seems to imply that my children are fictional! And the depths of info they want on them is a bit much, letters from school, letters from the council to say they were on the waiting list. I only just recently started using a minder who I pay cash and do not get receipts as I have in the past with all my other childminders.

I know I have nothing to hide and my claim is genuine but it is a disruption as on top of working full time and doing 13 hour days then coming home to be mum, I have to collect all the information. Just seems a bit much for routine! Plus the letter goes on about criminal investigation referral etc its a bit scary for the more timid person!

I am a single parent and have never lived with anyone. I do get letters for previous tenants as I rent privately but surely that can not be the cause of all this? Anyway half way through collecting all the info, lets see what turns up!

How do you prove how much you pay or do you not claim for childcare anymore?

Why is it a problem to ask your current child minder to give you a receipt?
  • is your childminder OFSTED registered? If so then they need to give receipts anyway so it really won't be an issue for them at all, they will be used to being asked.

If she isn't registered, surely she can't claim for help with the costs?
  • I have just had my tax credits stopped because I jointly share a house with a housemate (no relationship ever) and he has come up as living at the address (obviously). They do not seem to take in the fact that people can share a property and not be in a relationship!!

My husband left the family home in early August, separated since early June, and we are in the process of divorcing.

I claim CTC and WTC and am worried these might be stopped!

He is on the electoral roll at his new property and his bank account and credit card are registered there. However some of the utilities here are in shared names, as is the mortgage, and will be until the house is sold and we are finally divorced. I was told I should keep the bills in shared names to protect myself as he still owns the house with me.

    Yikes. What should I do?
