Can I deposit into a HBOS account at LTSB

Quick question please if anyone knows.

I need to pay a cheque into my account with HBOS and another into my wife's account with LTSB.

The Lloyds TSB branch is closer - can I use their Quick Deposit facility for both cheques (using separate slips and envelopes) ??

    Thats a pity, but thanks.
  • unfortunately although all under the same banking group they are still separate banks, pity because I have a bank of scotland cash account and the card can only be used at BOS atm's, would be much better if they could be used at any ATM for Lloyds Banking Group

You can pay a cheque into a Halifax account at the Post Office if you order a paying in book

    http://www.postoffice.co.uk/counter-services/counter-money-services/halifax

Cheque deposit: Yes – with personalised paying in slip and deposit envelope from Halifax

You can pay a cheque into a Halifax account at any bank that accepts bank giro credits (eg Lloyds TSB) if you have a Halifax paying in book - they may restrict this to customers of the bank (I have accounts with most of the UK banks and can pay in what I like , where I like)

of course you can, you can pay into the account of any clearing bank at any other clearing bank. You used to be able to fill in a Bank Giro Credit form in the branch but you now need a book of them from your own bank, called a "pay-in" book, where the slips are BGC's, you just need to call or drop in and ask for one to be sent to you. It will take 3 working days but will be cleared when it reaches your account, so pay in on a Monday and it will be available on the Wednesday.

You can use this book at any clearing bank to pay into your BOS account, some banks may charge for the facility but I doubt LTSB charge for a BCG deposit to another bank in its own group. You will get told at the time of the transaction and ask if you want to go ahead.

Edit: once you confirm there is no fee, or what the fee is and you are willing to pay it you can use the quick deposit envelopes too, just make sure you use the BOS pay-in slip from the book and not the one supplied in the branch.

savagej, I had no idea about that, and i've banked with quite a few over the years. Thanks for such a detailed, helpful response (even though I'm not the OP).

    My pleasure.

It is going out of fashion but it has been around for a very long time (it is a bit like a cheque in reverse). The Bank Giro Credit slip (you see them most often on the bottom of bills) used to be found blank in bank branches. But due to a major fraud (and a really easy one to perpetrate that is only noticed too late by the bank), a bank will only accept one now that is pre-printed in the form of a pay-in book from your own bank or pre-filled on a bill.

Edit: some of this has been superceded by anti-money laundering rules since I last looked, so a bank with no relationship with either party might refuse to accept the pay-in as they would be liable for fraud/losses. But in this case as both BoS and LTSB are within the same banking group there should not be problem.

    Completely forgot about bgc.

Us old building society types never used them!
