Hi, has anyone been to Pontins Holiday Park Southport? I've been on several Sun Holidays mainly to Thorpe Park Cleethorpes and i can highly recommend this lovely clean haven holiday site.

We are booked for Pontins Prestatyn :rotfl:

Like you I've looked on Tripadvisor  and am horrified at the (some recent) reviews. I can say that all the Pontins parks are having a major makeover/refurb this year so by the time our holiday in late August it should be acceptable (I hope!). I too am not bothered about any poshness as we are using it as a base for North Wales and as we havent been before we are most likely to be out all day visiting places. At the end of the day its just a room to sleep. As long as its dry, safe and warm Ill be happy. ill take some cleaning products with me as I always do and give it a 15 minute clean worse case.

On another note: Ive been to Butlins Skeggy in Gold Accomodation paying a lot of money (over £1.5k) and had a horrendous experience with the accomodation!! I was very horrified and angry as you would be. Yet all the reviews are very positive. Sometimes things do go wrong and no matter how much youve paid for something there should be a standard. Ive also stayed in Budget accomodation and we had the time of our lives! just goes to show that paying more money doesnt also give you a better deal!.

I wouldnt worry about it too much, plan ahead, get some day trips thrown in and places to visit and just use the site at nighttime and as a bed for the night. Worse case its 4 nights eh?

I think everyone's standards is different

I agree, I stayed at Butlins Minehead in Silver accomodation the first year and couldn't fault it, went back the next year same accomodation and had a really bad room. The floor was wet and smelt like a mop bucket, they explained that they had had the floors cleaned but didn't leave enough time for it to dry, luckly they moved us to another room. If this had been my first time at butlins I would not have recommended it but as I had such a good time before, I knew it was just one bad experience.

ok i've received my invoice this morning. According to the invoice I've got to pay for

    4 entertainment passes £28
    4 half board supplements £64
    £30 power charge

there is only 2 of us going. This adds another £122 onto the £62 (ish) that we've already paid. It's been a long time since I actually went on one of these but I can't remember being charged for power before - and to me £30 is a lot (more than I put in my own meter a week).

This is for Craig Tara in Ayr.

    Hi,
just wanted to say we went there last year and had a brilliant time. Great base to explore :j
Ring them up, my invoice was all wrong too with half board for four adults instead of 2ad and 2 ch, also had an upgrade thing added on. But I rang them and they sorted it all over the phone for me.

Hi Millerose, many thanks for your prompt reply, I do agree with all what you say, I'm not bothered about poshness by any means in fact when we are not on the sun holidays we go camping which we all enjoy, we dont use the entertainment passes because my family along with my sisters and their families take turns with cooking supper and all get together to have a drink and play cards and games at night, I always bring cleaning materials and our own bedding but I suppose I've always been lucky because all the places I've been to have been very clean including the communal facilities when we've been camping, hope you have a lovely holiday:)

It's good that you are going with an open mind as Pontins in Prestatyn is a dump (I have stayed there this year). From the outside it looks like a prison camp and the chalets are grim (we had the superior club class one). On the plus side North Wales is stunning and there is loads to do:).
Hopeless by name, hopeless by nature.

Hiya we stayed there four years ago, and tbh it was really grim. We left early 2nd DAY!!!! There was nothing to do, it looked rundown, unless it has changed, dont go!!! The pool was over clorinated, the bar reminded me something out of on the buses. And there was disused caravans all over the place!!! My son injured his head and they fobbed him off with a drink. When I found out I blew my top and reported them to HSE. But I it may have changed.
